How to compress a video

  1. Open Compress, then choose a video from Photos or import it from Files.
  2. Pick a quality preset, or set a target size for each video.
  3. Use Preview to inspect the first five seconds of the compressed output.
  4. Tap Compress. Find the completed result in History, then play, share, or save it.

What is free? What does Pro unlock?

The free app handles one input video at a time, up to 1 GB (1,000,000,000 bytes). Quality settings, size targets, previews, saving, and sharing are included, without a watermark.

Pro is a one-time purchase. It unlocks batches of up to 50 videos per selection and input videos larger than 1 GB. It is not a subscription. Processing limits still depend on available storage and device codec support. The App Store purchase sheet shows the current regional price.

Restore a purchase

Use Settings > Restore Purchases while signed in to the same Apple Account used for the purchase. No separate VideoCompress account is needed. If no purchase is found, check the Apple Account and your purchase history. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

A video is downloading before compression

The original may be stored in iCloud. Apple's picker downloads it first. Compression itself takes place on your device. Check connectivity and available storage if the download cannot finish.

The result is too large, or the target cannot be reached

Already optimized input can become larger when encoded again. Try Smaller or a realistic target size. Long videos need enough space for their duration; increasing the target or removing audio can help. HDR is converted to SDR. Originals remain unchanged.

Can I lock my phone or switch apps?

Keep the app open for the most reliable processing. Background execution depends on the system. If interrupted, completed outputs remain in History and unfinished videos can be retried. Retrying starts that video's encoding again.

Where are my files? Does compression free storage immediately?

Compressed files remain inside the app and are listed in History. You can also save copies to Photos or Files. The app retains the original, so creating another smaller copy does not immediately free device storage. Review saved results before independently managing original files.

Deleting a History item removes the app's compressed copy and record, not the original or copies already saved elsewhere. Clearing temporary files keeps completed outputs.

Change language

The app follows the system's preferred supported language and uses English if none is supported. Open Settings > App language inside the app and select a language. Changes apply immediately and remain after restarting. Select Follow System to restore automatic language selection. The app supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Italian.
